FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the goal and the objective of CCU’s Programs? The foundation of all of our programs at Cornerstone Christian
University is to nurture an increased awareness of the pre-eminence of the
spiritual dimensions of human life through an appreciation of our Christian
belief, as well as through an understanding of Biblical truth and religious
values as they apply to daily life. These include such areas as: 1.
Written Communication: CCU seeks to introduce principles of effective written
communication and guide students toward defining the writing situation and
making sound rhetorical choices for presenting their ideas or arguments. 2.
Christian Faith and
Service: CCU seeks to expose students to the Judeo-Christian worldview and
to the diversity of religious thoughts and perspectives in the world and help
students clarify the role of faith in their life. 3.
Physical and Social
Well-Being: CCU seeks to foster lifelong habits for healthy living by
promoting personal improvement of the mind, body, and spirit through the study
and practice of physical and aesthetic principles in relation to biblical
principles. 4.
Human and Social
Behavior: CCU seeks to encourage a broad understanding of humankind in order
to appreciate the unique nature of the individual, the common patterns found
among humanity, and the influence of external social forces on human behavior. 5. World Perspective: CCU seeks to enhance an understanding of the contemporary world through a study of its historical, literary, artistic, and philosophical foundations. What is Accreditation? People
are very uneducated about Accreditation and they believe only regional
accreditation is of value. Accreditation is a voluntary process by which primary
and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and professional schools submit
themselves to a comprehensive review process by an outside agency to ensure
quality and institutional integrity. Accreditation is divided into three main
category and focus on either region of the United States (6 of them), national,
which accredits certain school, and private. The US Department of Education does
force individual school to be accredited but they approved accrediting agencies
to accredit schools. However, accredit schools click together to say if your
school is not part of our political click, you’re not accredited. In most
cases, “non accredited schools” have better curriculum then some accredited
schools. Having said this, school should be judged based on their curriculum but
not what an agency think. While
there are a few quality Christian colleges and seminaries that don't seek
regional accreditation for theological reasons, it remains the standard of
quality within the United States. Please
note that this approach to accreditation is uniquely American as most
universities outside of the United States operate under a government charter or
approval. Nonetheless, accreditation is of no primary importance to higher
religious education institutions training Christians for the ministry of Christ. I
want to study for religious and my ministry, is it really necessary to worry
about regional accreditation? It’s
all depends! If you are pursuing a college degree through a Christian school for
the purpose of seeking employment in secular world, then my advice to you is to
seek elsewhere for a government regulated regional accredited school. On the
other hand, if you are seeking a degree from a Christian school for the purpose
of perfecting your ministry, your church body, or Christian schools, then
accreditation is of no value to you. You do not need a regionally accredited
degree to be an effective leader in fulfilling the great commission. If you were
to ask such a thing in order to be a pastor, a teacher, or a leader in a
Christian environment, I would run fast if I were you.
If God is the one who called you, then he simply ask you to study to show
thyself approved unto Him and… a worker who can rightly dividing the word of
the truth, and to be always ready to give an account for the hope you profess.
Is cornerstone accredited? Accreditation is strictly a voluntary decision and is basically an
organized way of determining the acceptance of credits or degrees from any
particular institution. Since academic recognition is a continual process, the
administration, faculty and staff of CCU has made a commitment to provide the
highest quality standards of education without compromise, to the Biblical and
theological philosophies of Christianity. Conversely speaking, accreditation is of no primary importance to
higher religious education institutions training Christians for the ministry of
Christ. For your peace of mind knowing that other organization is overseeing
what we do, Cornerstone has sought to be privately accredited through
the National TransRegional Accrediting Association Council (NTAAC)—a
private accreditation body that grants accreditation to Private and independent
Colleges, Universities, and Seminaries. This council is not affiliated with any
government agency. NTAAC is currently seeking approval by the US Department of
Education. Visit them at www.ntaac.org. CCU makes no guarantee of the acceptance of CCU credits to other
institutions except those accredited through Accreditation Agencies and or
Florida Counsel for Private Colleges and Seminaries. Transfer of credits from
CCU to other institutions of learning are solely up to the discretion and desire
of the institution where the student is applying. Students are encouraged to
inquire how the educational institution into which they plan to transfer
concerning the transferability of credits received through any another
institution in advance of enrollment. MEMBERSHIP
Cornerstone is a member of the Counsel of
Private Colleges of America, Inc., (CPCA) which represents its member’s
independent colleges and universities before any government agency. The CPCA is
an educational association that provides experienced educational quality peer
review of the following: faculty, academic curriculum, course development,
distance learning process, campus operation, student records and transcripts, to
CPCA standards which exceed the minimum standards of the State of Florida (www.cpcamerica.org). What
are the advantages? First, Cornerstone has an array of studies
where any student from any denomination or church affiliation can study without
compromising his or her doctrinal belief. The spiritual devotion among the
students and the staff is very important for the growth of the seminary. Secondly, Cornerstone grades its students
based on the content of their work and the understanding of the subject studied.
Grading is not based on doctrinal differences. The third advantage is the financial
obligation. The cost for attending Cornerstone is only a fraction of the amount
required to obtain a degree from another university. Fourthly, Cornerstone offers individual
attention to each of its students. The faculty-student relationship inevitably
extends beyond the classroom to enlighten the learning curve. Lastly, there is an experience advantage.
Cornerstone works with local congregations to assist each student (on or off
campus) in getting hands-on pulpit experience training before graduating. Who
may enroll?
Any person who has accepted the Lord Jesus
Christ as his or her Savior may enroll as a student with Cornerstone. Regardless
of one's educational background he or she may become a student. Those who have
not finished high school may enroll under the Bible Institute Division and
receive a Bible education. Those who are high school graduates or have their GED
may enroll in the degree program. What is Cornerstone’s policy regarding discrimination? Cornerstone does not discriminate on the
basis of age, race, color, gender, national origin or physical impairment in its
administration of its educational and administrative policies or its programs.
Cornerstone however, does reserve the right to make admission, employment and
degree conferral on the basis of those principles and beliefs set forth in the
Statement of Faith and moral standards set forth. Who
profits from Cornerstone's programs?
Why
should Christians be trained? So
they can “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone that asks them
to give the reason for the hope that they have.” (I Peter 3:15 NIV).
Ephesians 4:12-13 gives us another answer to this question, "For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for
the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of
the stature of the fullness of Christ." If
you are serious about your Christian life and resolute about being effective for
Christ, there is no way around it! You must be equipped in the knowledge of
God’s training manual, the Bible. For any profession one is interested in, he
must first be trained and competent in that which he has learned. Only a foolish
person would claim to be a medical doctor without ever going to medical school,
and only a foolish person would claim to be a police officer without ever
receiving any academy training. Why should it be different for Christians? God is not calling us
to be ambassadors and yet know nothing about His kingdom. After all, he calls us
to be ambassadors and he expects us to gain full knowledge of His kingdom and
how it operates. If we fail to do that, we will, for sure, ineffectually
represent His kingdom. Imagine if a US ambassador misrepresented the United
States to North Korea right now! Remember, everything on earth is a
representation of what is in heaven. Don’t be misled into believing that your
Christian instruction ceases when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
God expects you to increase in the knowledge of His Word. The Holy Spirit can
open your heart and place knowledge in it, but you also need to study and gather
understanding just like any great man or woman of God. You must learn and become
proficient in both the knowledge Does
the Bible ask Christians to study? “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Tim. Studies
have showed that Christians are not evangelizing because they don’t know the
Scriptures and are afraid of being embarrassed. For instance, consider Muslims
or Jehovah’s Witnesses. Their teachings are highly contrary to the Christian
faith, but they are increasing in numbers everyday, not because they have a true
gospel, but because they are well versed in their doctrine and are able to
convince many of its so-called “truth”. How many evangelical Christians came
to your door this year? Last year? What about the year before? Did you see
twenty? Ten? Five? One? Did you see any at all? How then should Christians study? “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon
line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little,” (Isa.28:10 NKJV). Centuries and centuries before Christ, there were schools, which
trained people of God in the Scriptures, continually. Jesus came to earth and
trained many. Schools continue to exist to train God’s people in the
Scriptures. In North America, particularly in the United States, many renowned
universities (Harvard, to name one), started with the study of the Scriptures. One can always study and learn on his or her own, but the best and
most efficient way to learn is to be in a school. Schools enforce discipline,
responsibility, and continuance. Many of us become more effective when we answer
to someone else. When we have necessary assignments to complete, we have to make
a significant effort to finish the required coursework without distraction. What happens when Christians study the Scriptures? There is an extreme misconception that the understanding of Biblical
doctrine is reserved for just pastors and evangelical teachers. It is, however,
also for the average Christian and the whole church. This misconception is
illusive, misleading, and destructive to the body of Christ. Wayne Grudem,
professor of Bible and Theology at Phoenix Seminary explains: “When
the whole church decides to study theology, by God’s grace, we may one day
have churches full of Christians who can discuss, apply, and live the doctrine
and teachings of the Bible as readily as they can discuss the details of their
own jobs, hobbies, or the fortune of their favorite sports team or television
program.”
By
studying the Word of God, we can be equipped for service in the Kingdom of God
and we will also be ready to take the position in the Body of Christ to which
God has appointed us. We will be
able to walk in unity with other believers and we will be a vessel of honor to
God that can rightly divide the word of truth.

About Financial Aid? Due
to federal regulations, Christian schools that approved by their approved
accrediting agencies are not eligible for Federal Funding. Accordingly, we do
not solicit funds or grants from the government. The cost of earning college
credit through Cornerstone Christian University’s online program is
substantially less than the cost of many other universities’ on-campus
tuition. As a result, financial aid is not available to seminary students at
this time. Does
Cornerstone allow monthly payments? Cornerstone asks that all students to pay
their tuition in full at the time of enrollment if possible, thus, eliminate the
possibility of being dismissed from lass due to late or non-payment. However, if
